Today the second typhoon in three weeks hit Taiwan. I had heard people mention it earlier in the week, but I didn't really consider it an issue. If I had listened, I would have gone out Saturday to get groceries and supplies rather than staying at home and cleaning the apartment. But of course I didn't. I chose to lay about Saturday, and now I haven't left the building since Friday night, when I went into Xinzhu with some fellow Korrnell teachers and ate and had some drinks at a small little bar called TJs. It was refreshing to see that the bar didn't try to cook its own food. They had food, but they ordered it from a restaurant a few shops down. I am sure they marked the price up, but still, I payed something like $3 or $4 USD for a big plate of lightly breaded and spiced fried chicken. The drinks, though, were a little pricey. They had Heineken for $3 a bottle--their cheapest drink. I ordered one to start with and they took the plunge and ordered one of their mixed drinks that seemed tasty--a Melon Ball. It was about $6 USD and girly as all fucking get-out. Fortunately, the place was deserted at the time (8-9 pm), so I was harangued only by my co-workers/friends. I have to say, though, the taunting was worth it: the melon ball was delicious.
That's all for this weekend. Nothing exciting, really. I did see a lot more girls in their 20s in and around this bar, so I expect I will be going back at some point and making a night out of TJs and some of the neighboring bars. Some of the other places I've been to have either been to foreigner friendly or I guess just not "the spot(s)".
Now to get some fancy clothes and a new haircut. Also, musclemilk. HGH. POWERBARS!

Sorry to hear about the typhoons - what was it like? Is it like a small hurricane? Hope things are back to normal now. Sounds like you are enjoying the local scene and relaxing in your free time.
